The
Howrah Bridge is the first cantilever suspension bridge of its type.
Constructed in 1941 over the river Hooghly, the bridge joins the twin cities
of Howrah and Kolkata (Calcutta).
Construction of the bridge involved approx. 26,000 MT of steel work with
Monolith piers having a Central Span of 1,500 feet with approximate truss
height of 300 feet. |
